چکیده
Cu(100), Cu(110), Ag(111},Au(111), and Au(100}), a semimetal [Sb(100}],and a layered compound {1T-TiS2). Data for Au{111) show that image-potential states exist even in the presence of bulk states. The coupling with bulk states is weak as indicated by the narrow {&0.1 eV) width of the image states. The binding energies of the lowest state cluster around 0.7 eV for a variety of metal and semimetal surfaces indicating a universal phenomenon. This value is close to the hydrogenic binding energy of —, 6 Ry -0.85 eV for the n =1 state, which indicates that the simple Coulombic image potential dominates the energy balance.

Electron spectra of a self-assembled monolayer on gold: Inverse photoemission and two-photon photoemission spectroscopy
Ultraviolet photoemission spectroscopy, inverse photoemission spectroscopy, and two-photon photoemission spectroscopy are techniques commonly used to examine the electronic structure of surfaces and interfaces. We have used all three to study self-assembled monolayers of 4,4 0-bis(phenylethynyl)benzenethiol on gold, a system often studied for potential application in molecular electronic juncti...
متن کاملNote: low energy inverse photoemission spectroscopy apparatus.
An apparatus for the low-energy inverse photoemission spectroscopy is described. In this technique, low energy electron having kinetic energy below 4 eV is incident to the sample and detect the emitted photons in the near ultraviolet range (below 5 eV, longer than 250 nm) to investigate the unoccupied states of the solid materials. Compared with the prototype apparatus reported previously [H. Y...
متن کاملInverse Photoemission Spectroscopy of Multiwall Carbon Nanotubes
Multiwall Carbon Nanotubes (MWCNTs) were synthesized by Chemical Vapor Deposition (CVD). Two different procedures were used to grow MWCNT films roughly, aligned in the direction normal to the SiO2/Si(111) substrate. Inverse Photoemission Spectroscopy measurements, on these samples, show the existence of resonances which could be traced back to a flat graphene sheet. The unoccupied valence band ...
متن کاملInverse photoemission with energy resolution better than 200 meV.
We present a spectrometer for inverse photoemission in the vacuum ultraviolet range with variable energy resolution between 400 and 165 meV full width at half maximum. The energy distribution of the electron beam used for excitation can be adjusted between 300 and 125 meV by the use of a toroidal 90 degrees electrostatic deflector combined with a slit aperture. The emitted photons are detected ...
متن کاملLaser-induced desorption of Ar from Cu(1 0 0) probed by two-photon photoemission spectroscopy of image-potential states
Comparing the intensities of the well separated two-photon photoemission lines from image-potential states on clean and Ar covered Cu(1 0 0) surfaces we show that Ar atoms are desorbed by photons of only 4.43 eV energy. The crosssection of this desorption by electronic transition process is very low, only 1.3 barn (1.3 · 10 24 cm). Experimentally, it is accessible due to the high light intensit...
